After years of drifting by the la mer counter, gazing in true wonderment at all its aquatic splendour, last week i finally plunged into its opulent depths. Yep, oceanic metaphors aside, i have officially purchased my first ever crème de la mer product! This cold weather is making my skin completely unsettled and out of sorts – it actually looks sad whenever i catch it glaring back at me in the mirror – so i’ve spared no expense and indulged to the fullest for my first beauty post of the year, hopefully bringing a little revitalisation and happiness to my skin…and my readers, of course :)
After analysing my poor, dull, distressed and tired complexion (leaving me feeling a little insecure and exposed but ready-as-ever to find a solution) the beauty consultant suggested the moisturising soft cream… i’ll leave it to the wonderful copywriters at brand headquarters to elicit just what this gorgeous product has to offer:
Born from the sea, the legendary Crème de la Mer has the power to transform the skin […] With the nutrient-rich Miracle Broth, the heart of La Mer’s profound powers of transformation, [the luxurious soft cream] visibly renews and energizes skin for a healthy look and radiant glow. Skin looks softer, firmer, virtually ageless.
Sounds almost delicious, doesn’t it? I just couldn’t resist… and as a finishing touch to my afternoon skincare splurge, i was given a complimentary baume de la mer lip balm as part of the la mer january promotion, along with a generous offering of luxurious samples including the intensive revitalizing mask and the eye balm intense. As you can imagine, i left the beauty department a very happy girl and couldn’t wait to get home and start spoiling my skin.

I’ve only been using the moisturising soft cream and the lip balm for a few days, and am yet to use the intensive revitalizing mask and the eye balm intense; however i wanted to take you on the entire journey with me, so i’ll be sure to update you in a month or so with what i’ve discovered along the way.
Here’s my experience so far:

The moisturising soft cream is truly sumptuous. The scent is lush, yet ever so subtle, and the consistency is perfect for my combination to oily skin. While at first glance you just want to grab a big spoonful and swallow it*, the cream isn’t too heavy upon application and absorbs into the skin like a dream. I only figured out today that it’s supposed to be warmed for a few seconds between your fingers before being pressed gently on to the skin… I was clearly too impulsive at first, choosing a more excessive approach. The cream comes with a little spatula, that you simply dip in and out of the tub to give just the right amount of product for the perfect application. I’m using this product as a day and night cream, and i’m absolutely confident it will last a long while.
*Warning: pardon my enthusiasm, this product is, in fact, not edible.

The baume de la mer lip balm is like a little dose of mint sorbet for your lips (again, not edible peeps). It tingles upon application and feels instantly cooling. I’m using this at night before i go to sleep, as a little deluxe treat to counteract the drying effect of this glacial cold weather.
So that’s the story of my la mer voyage so far. Time will tell what treasures it will uncover for my skin. I promise to share the results with you in a couple of months, so stay tuned… i’m feeling hopeful that a new, radiant glow is just a few (modest) applications away.
I can’t wait to try it, thanks Bibbykiss!

I’ve heard wonderful things about La Mer but I haven’t tried it yet. Just like you, I drift by their counter but never take the plunge. Let me know if your are happy with it because I may get my first cream from La Mer soon. If something is good I don’t mind splurging on it ;)
